Year 2 Curriculum
Key Stage 1 – ages 5-7 years old.
Year 2
Year 2 is the second and final year of Key Stage 1 and the children continue to follow the National Curriculum.
This consists of core subjects:
- English
- Maths
- Science
Foundation subjects:
- History
- Geography
- Art and Design
- Design and Technology
- Computing
- Music
- Physical Education
- Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education.
- We also follow the agreed Sunderland syllabus for Religious Education.
We continue to follow a ‘theme based’ approach to the curriculum this means that wherever possible we group our subjects around a theme using cross-curricular links. Throughout the school year, we teach six different themes. The themes we choose are planned around interests and needs of the children and areas of the National Curriculum we must cover. We use the local environment to create a curriculum that is relevant and teaches the children about their own rich, cultural heritage whilst developing an understanding of how this culture is enriched by the multi-cultural British society of today. By the end of Year 2 our children are prepared for their transition into Key Stage 2.
